Patient and Visitor Information
While You Are in Our Care
Visiting Hours
Visiting hours vary by department and have been established to promote a time of rest for the patient. The hours are as follows:
On our Medical-Surgical Unit and Progressive Care Unit, visiting hours are flexible. However, to promote rest and healing, we encourage visitors to leave patient areas by 9:00 PM. Children may visit for short periods of time but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
For our Outpatient Surgeries, the presence of a support person or patient representative is encouraged to provide comfort and support to the patient undergoing surgery; however, there is a visitor limit of two at a time in the patient care area.
Visitation for our Emergency Room is usually open 24 hours a day; however, visitation will be at the discretion of the Charge Nurse. There is a limit of 2 visitors per patient. The Charge Nurse may limit visitation or close the department to visitors during any emergent situation. Children under the age of fourteen (14) are not allowed to visit unless special permission is obtained from the Charge Nurse.
Dietary and Food Service
Good nutrition is a very important part of recovery. A registered dietician works with physicians to assess dietary needs and develop a patient diet that is complementary to treatment. After a dietary plan is established, the dietary staff will answer questions and provide information on dietary adjustments. Patient meals are served at the following times:
- Breakfast – 7:45 AM
- Lunch – 12:00 PM
- Dinner – 5:00 PM
The hospital’s café and dining room is open on weekdays from 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM and on weekends and holidays 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM.
Daily lunch specials are served Monday – Friday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Visitor meals can be served in patient rooms for a small fee. Vending machines are located in the cafeteria and are available to visitors at all times.
Personal Belongings
All jewelry, credit cards and cash should be left at home. There is a hospital safe in which items can be stored until arrangements have been made by the family to take them home. Patients should bring only the following items with them to the hospital: toiletries, gown or pajamas, dentures, eyeglasses and hearing aids. When they are not in use, eyeglasses and dentures should be stored in protective containers. Pulaski Memorial Hospital is not responsible for loss of or damage to personal items.
Gift Shop
The PMH Auxiliary operates a gift shop for patients and visitors. The shop provides a variety of items including silk floral arrangements, greeting cards, candies, baby items, personal hygiene items, crafts and postage stamps.
The Auxiliary adds new items often. You can follow their Facebook Page to stay updated on their inventory.
Any item can be delivered to a patient’s room by calling extension 1198.
Hours: Weekdays 9 am – 4 pm.
Mail/Notary Service
PMH Auxiliary members deliver mail daily to patient rooms. Stamped outgoing mail can be given to a nurse, who will see to it that it is mailed. PMH provides notary service for patients upon request weekdays from 8 am – 4 pm.
Chaplain Service
At Pulaski Memorial Hospital, we understand that healthcare encompasses not only physical well-being but also spiritual and emotional health. Our Chaplain program is made up of local religious leaders who are available to provide spiritual guidance and compassionate support.
Nurses can arrange for volunteer chaplain visits Monday through Friday. At the request of the patient or family, chaplains may be called for special visits. There is also a chapel in the front lobby of the hospital that is open at all times for prayer or quiet reflection.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in any area of the hospital or on the hospital grounds. Patients may request a referral to a smoking cessation program. For more information call 574-946-2132.
